Suggestions to Update the New User Guide: Comment
Edit (Admin): Make suggestions on things we should add or clarify in our new user guide.
Definitions should be added so new users, like me, aren't confused on what the submission options mean. It's the most confusing between add status and blog post. A handy guide on all the submission options, including clearly defining them, would ease transition for a lot of new users. This of course could extend to the rest of the website like with the categories, subscriptions and such.
Added from the Discord channel discussion: There's a wonderful resource for new users, and users in general, for InkBlot. With the influx of new users from other platforms it might be nice to update it. Add definitions and how-to-guides of all the functions of the website. Basically turning it into a master guide for all users. The admins of InkBlot are very busy and have priorities elsewhere. So this is a good opportunity to have it as a group effort. Especially for new users who can give an outside perspective.
This is the area of reference. Lots of good stuff in there already. New users also have quite a few questions that can already be answered using this guide and the support section. An easy to find link for both can help ease up on the FAQ in the future. The New User guide is under the <> already. A direct link to the support page under the <> could also help.
I started with the Explore (green compass) button. So here's what I wrote down to help potential new users out. I don't know everything so don't be afraid to reply to add to what's missing or even to discuss.
Explore Button: The Explore button(green compass) will show what's trending/recently popular in three categories, Art, Literature & Stories and Audio.
Categories: A short summary of each category and the potential contents. (Since only names are given for categories, maybe a little more can be added for clarity to keep mis-categorizations low. Maybe even add a NSFW category for 18+ users if it can be hidden or locked from underage users.)
Art Challenges: Who can start them, who can join, how they end if they end. (I don't know enough to go into detail here. A more knowledgeable user can expand on this)
Comics: A collection of comics created by InkBlot users. Each comic is in a folder of its own for easy navigation. To create a comic collection, go to profile --> settings. Under gallery settings create a new album. There should be a switch called "comic album" to activate it. Once activated, a cover image and banner can be added. The cover image is the thumbnail for the comic folder collection. The banner image will show up inside the folder across the top like a banner in a profile. Alternately, an existing folder can be edited to be a comic album.
Latest: Clicking on the latest button will show new Users, new Status Posts, new Literature and Stories posts and new Art posts.
Groups: Groups made by other users are located here. Join and create new groups here.
All Groups - Every group available, including private groups. A private group needs to be requested to join.
My Groups - Groups created by you.
Join Groups - A collection of groups you have joined.
Archived Groups - (I assume groups that are no longer in use/locked but are available to browse)
Commissions: Clicking on the Commissions tab will show others on InkBlot offering commissions. Prices, examples and descriptions show up for each commission tab. Clicking on a Request button will open up the Message dialogue to start messaging with the seller. A Commission can also be created through here. Commissions can also be created through the profile Commissions tab.
